Statutes and Constitutions

Researching constitutions and statutes is an important part of doing legal research.  Constitutions are the basic law of a country or state. They establish the form of government and set out the checks and balances for controlling governmental powers.  Statutes are laws enacted by the legislative branch - either Congress on the federal level or the legislatures of each of the 51 states.  Session laws and codes comprise the statutory law of the United States as well as each individual state.

The databases BloombergLaw, LexisAdvance and WestlawNext all offer up-to-date versions of the United States and Maryland constitutions.
